Taxi

What is it?

Taxi and PHV drivers in England and Wales are often the first contact to a region for tourists and visitors and act as ambassadors for that region. However, many rarely receive the recognition they deserve for the essential service that they provide.
There is now a nationally recognised qualification available for self employed taxi and PHV drivers that introduce a recognised level of skills and competency. This ensures taxi drivers have the required level of underpinning knowledge to perform the job to a high standard and raise the profile and image of the role in the process. More and more Licensing authorities across the country are now recognising the qualification and encouraging Taxi drivers to take advantage of the qualification as a requirement.
LATA are a leading recognised training provider in this area, and worked with government bodies, taxi drivers, licensing authorities and taxi ranks in delivering a tailored training programme and course that meets the needs of the authorities and Taxi drivers.
LATA's course meets and exceeds the "Best Practice Guidlines for RPVD delivery" developed by Go Skills and upon successful completion the candidate achieves;

  • The delivery of a BTEC (Online Test) as underpinning knowledge (Vocational Related Qualification) - Recognised as a must by some licensing authorities!
  • A Level 2 NVQ in Road Passenger Vehicle Driver
  • A certificate of completion for Disability Awareness
  • Opportunity to brush up literacy and numeracy Skills

To ensure the course meets candidates needs for the programme;

  • Is delivered at flexible times to meet shift patterns (Days/Evening & Weekends)
  • Experienced Tutors and Assessors have been recruited from the industry and licensing authorities
  • Delivered over a 14-16 week period with inbuilt revision classes
  • Communication with Taxi Ranks and Licensing Authorities to ensure course meets requirements
  • A quality training programme that builds upon feedback from drivers to ensure it adds real value and is continually meeting Taxi drivers needs!

The programme can be funded via the Train to Gain service if eligibility criteria met
